Movie: “Breakthrough”

OCT 3 | 12:30PM | Quad 4

12:30PM — Food served
1:00PM — Movie

There’s never any doubt that things will work out just fine in “Breakthrough”, and not only because Roxann Dawson’s movie is based on a true story. It’s also because of the film’s overtly Christian approach, which leans strongly toward the evangelical side of its discussion of faith and religion.

The story focuses on Joyce Smith (Chrissy Metz), a true believer. Grant Nieporte’s screenplay is based on the real Smith’s 2017 book (written with Ginger Kolbaba) The Impossible: The Miraculous Story of a Mother’s Faith and Her Child’s Resurrection, and yes, that title is more than a bit of a spoiler. Then again, the very idea that the story was written in the first place is a spoiler.

Cost: $3 (Includes a movie, popcorn, chili dogs, and a drink)

Austin’s most rockin’ holiday tradition returns to make merry with new music and surprises to get the party started. ZACH’s inspired adaptation of the Dickens’ classic is a musical sleigh ride through rhythm and time, infusing the traditional Victorian story with a score that spans all genres and eras. This family-friendly spectacular creates an infectious spirit that has everyone dancing in the aisles.  Celebrate the season with the loving Cratchit family and three soulful ghosts as they take Ebenezer Scrooge on a joyride to rediscover his heart and love for human kindness. One of the highlights is Riverbend’s own Paul Sanchez singing “O Holy Night”.

Rest_1920x692.jpg

Women, join us as we explore what it means to take rest in God

NOV 2 | 9:30AM–12:30PM | Community Center

Rest. Sometimes that four letter word is hard to come by — especially in the Fall when our schedules are ramping up, the pace of life starts to quicken, and everything can start to feel a little out of control. When life is at it’s craziest, our need for rest is critical.

At Rest: Calm Within the Chaos, we’ll explore what it means to take rest in God — and how that rest can come through new and unexpected means. We’ll take time to enjoy each other’s presence, connect as women, and learn to embrace the peace that only God can give — just when we need it most.

Take the time on NOV 2 to pause with other women also seeking to embrace a place of rest both without and within.

Cost: $15 — some scholarships are available

Women’s Mexico Missions Trip to Piedras Negras

Friday, JAN 17–Sunday, JAN 19, 2020

We are excited to continue our women's adventure in Piedras Negras, Mexico. Piedras Negras is a small town across from Eagle Pass. We will be working with a ministry called Hands and Feet Ministry. Hands and Feet works with a primary school, a special needs orphanage and about 5 other local churches.

We will be doing some work at the elementary school, orphanage and the Immigrant Home, as well as spending time in the community getting to know the local culture. This is a great introduction to cross-cultural missions for you and your female friends.

For lodging, we will be staying in houses owned by Crossroads Ministries. They provide one house that has a few bedrooms in it and another house right next door with one bedroom and 12 sets of bunk beds. If you would like a bedroom, you can try to choose that when you register. Just be aware that each bedroom has one full sized bed and one twin bed, so you might be sharing a bed. And there are only a few bedroom spots available, so it's first come, first served! :)

But no matter where you sleep, it's a great weekend spent with awesome Riverbend women!

Cost: $250 (Includes all transportation, meals, lodging and ministry activities)

40th Anniversary Party

40th_GRACE_1920x692.jpg

Riverbend Church is turning 40, and we’d like you to celebrate with us!

AUGUST 25, 2019: Immediately following our 9:45 & 11:15AM services

History.png

In July of 1979, a trail-blazing Pastor and a handful of courageous families had a vision to start a church like no other: a community where anyone — from aspiring saint to cynical skeptic — is welcome to come experience the grace that God has to offer.

40 years later, that vision hasn’t changed, and we think that’s something worth celebrating.

Arts.png

Join us August 25 after our 9:45 and 11:15AM services for our 40th Anniversary party. We’ll bring the food, fun, and memories. All you need to bring is you ... and maybe a friend!

Want to win some Riverbend swag?

Participate in our Selfie Scavenger Hunt if you want to experience everything we have to offer at our 40th Anniversary Celebration! You can find instructions and clues for the scavenger hunt on the Riverbend App or by downloading the guide.

Thanksgiving-NDC_1920x1692.jpg

NOV 10 | 5:30PM | 7000 Cameron Rd, Austin, TX 78752

Give thanks this year by serving one of our mission partners, East Austin Neighborhood Development Center (EANDC).

We're looking for volunteers to serve along side our Community Groups on NOV 10, 5:30PM for the Thanksgiving Feast at our Proyecto Esperanza Neighborhood Development Center (NDC). This is a great opportunity for anyone to jump in and serve an amazing community at home here in Austin.

Pradeep Thorat has been busy making connections and training more than 200 people in English classes. He has invited us to participate with him by helping him host a Thanksgiving dinner for all the families who have gone through the program.

This is a time to serve people who usually do all the serving, and it is a time to share the reason why we come together to give thanks.

There will be around 250 people learning from us what our Thanksgiving celebration is all about. Please consider joining in to serve good food, eat good food, and make new friends with those who are wanting to practice their English.

For more info, email: ndc@riverbend.com
