When a devastating injury puts Zach, and his dreams, on the sidelines, David laces up his track cleats to salvage their future and point Zach toward hope. “Run the Race” shows what’s possible when you run to---and not from---the overwhelming love of God.

Museum Day

JUL 7 | 12:15PM

Meet: Front of the Quads
Cost: The only cost involved will be lunch on your own

We will meet in front of the Quads and car pool to the Bob Bullock Museum. Then we will eat lunch (lunch not provided) and visit a number of displays.

The World War I exhibit presents the stories of a divisive and transformational America told through original artifacts, images, voices, music, hands-on-exploration, and multimedia presentations. Throughout the exhibit, visitors encounter “Witnesses”, people who represent the complex and divergent stories of the day. The exhibit takes us from the days prior to the War, during the War, and post-War problems and successes.

We will also see the exhibit, Becoming Texas: Where the Story Begins. This one-of-a-kind journey goes through more than 16,000 years of Texas history where they have documented the rise and fall of nations up to the Mexican Independence in 1821. You will have a chance to see the men and women who established trade networks across the Americans, see how tough it was to put food on the table,  and discover LaSalle’s failed attempt to establish a colony in the Gulf Coast in 1684.

We will also see how the rebuilding of the expedition’s 300-year-old ship, La Belle, is progressing. You will see thousands of items of cargo found in the hull.

We will also see the Lusher Collection: Collections from Private Collections in Texas. You will see a selection of 27 artifacts reflecting the confluence of Spanish, American Indian, and Anglo cultures that have inhabited the border region in the last 400 years.

Immerse: Sunday Worship Nights

Immerse_2019_1920x692_JUL.jpg

Do you find yourself craving a deeper worship experience with your Creator and your community?

1st SUNDAY OF THE MONTH | 6:00PM | STUDENT CENTER
Childcare offered for children birth-2nd grade — register below

Come explore a completely different worship experience. The music starts at 6:00PM, and it doesn’t stop until we’re done — no exaggeration. While the music is playing, we provide an open mic for anyone who wants to pray, share how they’ve been experiencing God, and request prayer. Sometimes we lay hands on each other in prayer, sometimes we improvise worship choruses based on what is shared or prayed over… it’s never the same as the month before, and it’s nearly impossible to describe if you’re not there.

Before worship, around 5:00PM we’ll share a big family dinner. Bring something to share, or enjoy what’s provided. This is a great opportunity for us to come together as the Immerse family and connect with each other before we start the music at 6:00PM.

If worship and prayer are a vital expression of your faith, Immerse was quite literally designed for you. We’ll see you there!

What if I have kids?

We want to allow our kids to experience Immerse worship as much or as little as they're capable! We think that allowing our kids to have the option to participate in worship can be extremely powerful, and we’re committed to helping make that as easy and flexible as possible.

We have childcare available — but we ask that you register them in advance by sending a quick email to our Susan Kennedy on our Children’s Ministry team. We encourage you to register your child ahead of time, and then allow them to worship with you until they’re ready to go to childcare.

Do you have questions about faith that you’ve never felt able to ask in Church?

2nd Sunday of the Month | Immediately following the 9:45 & 11:15AM Services | Welcome Center in the Home for Hope

Exploring your faith and spirituality can be really confusing sometimes. There are A LOT of conflicting voices in the world that try to tell us what we should believe about God, or what Christians are all about. Between the cacophony of opinions and the social/political/cultural taboos that surround us — it’s really easy to have questions about faith that you might not feel comfortable or empowered to ask.

At Coffee With A Pastor, we invite you to come to a safe, judgment-free setting and ask our team of pastors any questions you have about God, faith, and what it means to identify as a Christian. We mean it — you can literally ask us anything. We believe that God is big enough, and gracious enough, to meet us wherever we are at on our journey.

Join us the 2nd Sunday of the month following the 9:45 & 11:15AM services and ask us anything.

Unplugged @ The Chapel

Unplugged_1920x692.jpg

MAY 30 | 6:30–9:30PM | Smith Family Chapel

Church on Monday Featuring Elias Haslanger , Dr. James Polk, & Todd V. Wolfson

Native Texan and Austin resident Elias Haslanger has carved a unique and distinguished place in jazz history as a saxophonist, composer, and band leader. He has performed, recorded, and toured with many world-class artists including Ellis Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Christopher Cross, Asleep at the Wheel, Alejandro Escovedo, Charlie Hunter, Sheryl Crow, Doyle Bramhall II, Grupo Fantasma, The Four Tops, and The Temptations, among many others.

He has also served as a guest artist/lecturer at universities around the nation. Mentored by the legendary saxophonists Harvey Pittel and Dick Oatts, Elias began to explore the instrument’s vast potential by studying saxophone at the University of Texas and then at the Manhattan School of Music. His interest in writing music culminated in a Master’s Degree in Composition at Texas State University (TSU) in San Marcos.

Another Native Texan Dr. James Polk from a family gene pool virtually overflowing with piano players, including both parents, his sister and an aunt, James came to the piano relatively late in his youth. After being initiated into a life of music as an eight year old, violinist, James soon gladly changed to the saxophone, only to discover in middle school, his band director needed trombone players. So James switched his attention to mastering the trombone in high school and college. By the time he had finished undergraduate degree in 1963, James was already a professional musician. But he had had enough of the trombone and decided to marry his family heritage and his own musical talent to the piano. His decision not only kept alive his family's tradition, but gave birth to one of the finest blues and jazz keyboard artists to come out of the Texas music scene in the last half century.

In his last year at Huston-Tillotson University he organized the “James Polk and the Brothers” band. The band was renown for spotlighting fine musicians, such as Martin Banks and W.C. Clark, as well as soulful singer, Angela Strehli. More notably he was featured with the Ray Charles Orchestra on recordings, such as “Brother Ray Is At It Again” (1980), “The Spirit of Christmas” (1985); and on the Grammy nominated “Ain't It So” (1979) and “Wish You Were Here Tonight” (1983). Dr. Polk is currently associated with the Dr. James Polk Academy of Arts and Technology and the Austin Jazz Workshop. His most recently formed jazz ensemble, Centerpeace, which performs regularly in Austin is made up of young jazz musicians who see him as their leader, mentor and friend.

NOVEMBER: Christmas Gift Drive

Throughout November | Pick up your tag after our Sunday services

Each November the members and friends of Riverbend purchase gifts for thousands of underserved children located throughout the greater Austin area and beyond. These kids are in foster care, shelters, and other very difficult situations. Together we make Christmas a little better for over 2,500 children across Austin including the Rundberg, Travis Heights, and East Austin areas.

HOW IT WORKS: COLLECTING TAGS, SORTING, & DELIVERING GIFTS

Select a tag (or several) before or after our Sunday morning services. Purchase a gift from the suggestions on the label, or an age-appropriate gift. Gifts should be new, not used, and should cost no more than $40, so that all children (some of whom may be in a group setting) will receive gifts of the same approximate value. Make sure to follow the instructions on the tags — some gifts are wrapped and others are not.

Return your gift(s) to the Home for Hope by 12:00PM, Sunday, NOV 25.

Click here to order gifts from Amazon and have them shipped directly to Riverbend >

For questions, or more info, email Krista Ross >

DECEMBER: Toy Stores

DEC 15 @ South Austin | DEC 16 @ East Austin

Our Toy Stores allow parents to purchase new gifts for their children at extremely low prices ($1, $3 and $5 each). For many of these parents, there is significant dignity in allowing them to pay for Christmas gifts for their children.

The Toy Stores are setup at the Proyecto Esperanza Neighborhood Development Center in East Austin, and Travis Heights Christian Outreach in South Austin.

The serving opportunities include: setting up the stores, assisting with shopping, gift wrapping the presents, parking lot directing, supervising inflatables, creating Christmas crafts with the neighborhood kids and serving food and drinks. Feel free to invite your friends and family. It's a great way to connect and serve in Austin this Christmas season!

Donate to Angels Afoot

We understand that this is a busy season. While we’d love for everyone to participate in Angels Afoot by purchasing gifts, and volunteering time, we know that’s just not feasible for everyone. However, you can still contribute to Angels Afoot through a charitable donation.

Thanksgiving-NDC_1920x1692.jpg

NOV 10 | 5:30PM | 7000 Cameron Rd, Austin, TX 78752

Give thanks this year by serving one of our mission partners, East Austin Neighborhood Development Center (EANDC).

We're looking for volunteers to serve along side our Community Groups on NOV 10, 5:30PM for the Thanksgiving Feast at our Proyecto Esperanza Neighborhood Development Center (NDC). This is a great opportunity for anyone to jump in and serve an amazing community at home here in Austin.

Pradeep Thorat has been busy making connections and training more than 200 people in English classes. He has invited us to participate with him by helping him host a Thanksgiving dinner for all the families who have gone through the program.

This is a time to serve people who usually do all the serving, and it is a time to share the reason why we come together to give thanks.

There will be around 250 people learning from us what our Thanksgiving celebration is all about. Please consider joining in to serve good food, eat good food, and make new friends with those who are wanting to practice their English.
