Riverbend Arts Incubator
The Riverbend Arts Incubator project is designed to be a catalyst for creativity and growth of fine arts in Austin. We envision an environment in which local artists can flourish, both creatively and economically. Project volunteers from Riverbend Church seek to support a collaboration of artists from surrounding neighborhoods by establishing an artistic destination and a place where artists can apply their talents while learning practical aspects of operating a small business. The Incubator will also serve as a gathering-place destination for local, regional and national artists, for building community, sharing resources and molding the future of fine arts in Austin.
The initial focus of the Arts Incubator will be to help local artists earn a living using their artistic talent, and indirectly the Incubator will also provide valuable services with shared workspaces for artists across Austin. We envision the creation of special events, such as seminars, guest speakers and premier gallery showings. We believe this initiative will have a positive impact on Austin - creatively, economically, socially and spiritually.
The Incubator will house low-cost studios for artists, gallery space, workshops, shared workspaces and facilities for various media. It is possible that the building would also rent space to art-related and creative businesses like an art supply store or a graphic design firm. In addition, it is expected that the facility would lease space to an onsite Brew Pub.
In addition to work spaces, the Incubator would offer artists with services or training in areas such as resume and grant writing, business planning and marketing. Programming for the community also would be part of the plan, with exhibitions, performances and workshops.
The art Incubator will provide new and emerging artists with an environment that would support their start-up phase and increase their likelihood of success. The proposed Incubator includes facility space, flexible leases, shared use of common space and equipment, direct business assistance and guidance, mentoring, networking, and other technical resources. A network of existing resources in the community would be developed to support Incubator tenant needs.
